2007 SAE ALUMNI CONVENTION - Retrospective of a successful event
Trade show, seminars, panel discussions, product presentations, convention party plus award show, live gigs, DJs, press conference, official opening of the new SAE Berlin, lots of fun in a relaxed atmosphere - all this and much more made our third SAE Alumni Convention on October 18 and 19 another smashing success.
For the second year in a row, the premises of SAE Berlin proved to be the ideal venue for our media community event, this time attracting a stunning 2,000 visitors. A press conference announcing the official campus opening of the new SAE Berlin aptly started off the first day of the convention. Visitors had their pick from a variety of workshops, lectures, and panel discussions offered in both German and English. There was no shortage of food and drink, and a gaming zone, action area, and rest area provided additional creature comforts.
On Thursday evening, visitors came in droves to join the big Convention Party at FritzClub, and by 7.30 p.m., the place was packed to the rafters. Just as the year before, the event was charmingly and masterfully co-hosted by Studio 301 manager and producer Ulli Pallemanns. Following the presentation of SAE's new social community "mySAE" by community experts Kupferwerk and the rush on the convention buffet, hip hop crew "SAE Berlin Allstars" gave the party crowd exactly what they wanted. The evening continued with a massive drum-off, pitting contestants from seven different German-speaking SAE colleges against one another.
The definite highlight of the evening, however, were the 2007 SAE Alumni Awards, featuring nominations in five categories. The overjoyed winners walked away with prizes totalling more than €25,000. (A big "Thank you" goes out to our sponsors.)
The program continued with a very special treat: "Funk Alliance - The Real Groove Band", a seasoned band of top musicians. After over two hours of brilliant live music, SAE and Ableton kept up the pace by presenting Henrik Schwarz, one of Germany's hottest LIVE producers; and while the tech-house maestro proceeded to manoeuvre the crowd onto the dance floor, the boys of SAE Frankfurt's "Drum & Bass Crew" took the side stage. The whole house kept grooving until five in the morning. The second day of the convention started off somewhat slowly - no doubt thanks to the party of the night before - but picked up around 11 a.m. with the first seminars, panel discussions, and trade show events. Around 4 p.m., a successful third SAE Alumni Convention slowly came to an end and left everyone hoping for a speedy return of its fourth incarnation in 2008.
